Add Banner Ads
February 6th, 2009 Poker Province Admin
Many themes have special designated places for ads (banners, text, even photos, etc.).
To tell if the theme you're using has such ad space:
- Log in to the admin area and click "Appearance" in the left menu and then click "Widgets".
- In the drop down list under “Current Widgets”, see if there is one or more items prefaced with "Ad Space", (such as, "Ad Space - Header"). If not then the theme does not have special ad areas set up, but you can still add advertising in the existing "sidebars" (and of course, you can always put them in your "posts" and "pages").
To put your ads on the site in the "sidebars" or special "ad space" you follow the same procedure using the "text" widget.
- First, you must select the "sidebar" or "ad space" where you want to place the ads from the drop down list under "Current Widgets". Simply click it and then click the "Show" button.
- Find the "text" widget on the left side under the "Available Widgets" and click the "Add" button.
- A "text" widget should now appear on the right. Click the save button now.
- Next, click "edit" to open the "text" widget and paste your ad banner code (or text, etc.), in the text box (note: usually you would leave the title empty, but if it looks wrong on your site you may need to add a title, depending on the theme you are using). Be sure to SAVE again!
- Now check your site and make sure your banner or other content is there.
Repeat this procedure to add multiple ads - you can have as many "text" widgets as you want in the sidebars and put different ads in each one.
To center your ad or other content, add <div style="text-align:center"> before your ad banner code (or text, etc.), in the text box, and then add </div> after it.
If the theme sidebar is wide enough you may be able to put multiple ads in a single "text" widget. For example, if the space were 250 by 250 you could put one 250 by 250 banner or four 125 by 125 banners (usually there is no need to use separators - just place your banner codes in the "text" widget and save).
If you just want to remove the default ad from you theme, simply follow the above steps but leave the text box empty. Please note: the banner ads in the footer of most themes are not included in this feature and can not be removed or replaced.
If you have any problem getting the widget to save, try adding the widget and immediately saving it before adding your banner code. Refresh the page and then reopen the widget and paste your banner code in it and then save again.
